Hi everyone,
I was wondering if anyone has applied for the Disability Tax Credit succesfully. I've been trying for 4 years and I don't know if the doc's are filling the form out the way CRA wants them to. One doctor just refused to fill it out again and the next is totally frustrated. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated. |

Yeah,
I've been trying to get out but times are tough and a sitter costs money. When I get a feasible opportunity, I'll definitely be coming out. |

I just joined the group today, and noticed your post about having difficulties with doctors completing the DTC form. About 6 years ago, I was involved with an advocacy group called the Disability Tax Credit Coalition. It was volunteer led by this woman "Lembi Buchanan". I'm not sure if you've heard of her but she managed to get this legislation opened in Parliament for discussion since it was outright discriminatory against people with chronic mental illness - like bipolars. Anyways, I lost touch with the whole advocacy effort some years ago, but if you google "Lembi Buchanan" - I believe she still has an active website and she will likely have some free advice for you. Her husband has been living with bipolar for years and she was fighting for legislative/administrative changes on his behalf.
BTW, I noticed that you have a MSW degree. I do too from years ago, but do not currently work in social services. Would love to connect around your professional interests at some point - Surprisingly, I've never come across another MSW who has disclosed bp before. I think we might share more than just a common diagnosis :) |
